High Street Series #2 – A little haul featuring Revlon, Rimmel and Seche Vite…

Once again Boots draw me in with their 3 for 2 offers… all I’d gone in for was a new top coat! I ended up with a few more products in my basket, Revlon’s Colorstay Lip Butter and Photoready Cream Blush, Seche Vite Top Coat, and lastly a Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick.

First up are two products from Revlon. I’ve never really brought anything from Revlon in the past, but they’ve really upped their game recently, their Nearly Naked Foundation is lovely and I find myself reaching for their products more and more. After hearing such great things about the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters and eyeing up the colours on various trips in to Boots and Superdrug I took the plunge and brought the shade ‘Tutti Frutti’, a vibrant coral. I have a slight addiction to coral at the moment, coral blush, coral nails, coral lips… all I need in the summer weather now!

I’m really impressed with the Lip Butter, it’s really hydrating and pigmented, great for those days when you don’t fancy a full-on lipstick. I find it has great staying power, I don’t have that shock of looking in the mirror and finding my lips outlined and no other product left, it just fades really gradually. There was one thing I was disappointed with though, and that was the amount of product. Less than an inch of product, and for a high street product at £7.99 I thought this was a little measly. That was my only complaint, so I will probably find myself buying a few other colours. Candy Apple, Juicy Papaya and Watermelon are on my wish list!

Revlon Photoready Cream Blush £7.99

Next up is the Revlon Photoready Cream Blush. I got this in the shade ‘Flushed’, a really bright, slightly neon pink. This is extremely pigmented, I have a habit of applying my make-up in semi-darkness and had quite a shock when I got to work and looked in the mirror. I had quite a clown-like look going on! So the trick to this is to apply in daylight and used very little product. I apply this with my Real Techniques Stippling brush, I just make such a mess of things if I use my fingers to apply cream blush.

I’ve used this a couple of times and really wished I’d got the coral/peach blush instead, it could just be my current obsession with coral though! Like with the Lip Butters, I can see myself nipping to Boots and purchasing the coral soon.

The other make up product that I got is a Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick, I got the shade ‘Bulletproof Beige’, a shimmery champagne colour. Eyeshadow sticks seem to be the new craze, Clinique have just launched an eyeshadow version of their famous Chubby Stick. I was after an eyeshadow that would be natural and brightening, perfect for that fresh spring makeup look. It’s a creamy crayon consistency, very soft to apply. There were a couple of things that I was disappointed with, even applied on top of an eye primer it does tend crease after a few hours. It’s also the type pencil you have to sharpen, I was hoping for a twist up style pencil like the Chubby Sticks. I always find I lose quite a bit of product while sharpening. I won’t be buying any other colours of these, I much prefer the Maybelline Colour Tattoos (see my review of these here).

The last product I got is the Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, which is the actual the reason I went to Boots! I needed a new top coat, and I’d read really good reviews about this one, supposedly the best, holy grail of top coats. Annoyingly I’m really disappointed with this, I don’t know whether it’s my combination of base coat and nail polish that it doesn’t agree with, or just that it doesn’t work for me. It basically seems to make my nail polish brittle and more prone to chipping. I paint my nails in the evening, go to work in the morning and there will already be a chip, really irritating. It’s £9 as well, so not a cheap topcoat! This top coat also contains Toluene, a chemical that is known to cause ‘birth defects and other reproductive harm’. Sounds nice right?! There’s a good post about it on Lacquer Glamours blog here. Apparently the top coat contains such a small amount of Toluene so it is safe to use, but after finding out about this, using the product and not liking it, I think I may put this in the nail polish graveyard. I’ll be sticking to my trusty Sally Hansen.

I have heard about health warnings in regards on Seche Vite top coat and it has put me off trying it. But I do see a lot of people using it! And ranking it as the best one. I’m secretly happy it might not be as awesome as it would seem, after reading about your experience with it 😀

Hehe, the blush story was funny! Cream blushes are tricky for me. My cheeks pink up as soon as I touch them, so I never know how much product is there, and how much is it my natural pigments 😉

Wow, everything you bought is so nice! I have a lip butter from revlon, but as I am out in the USA now, I’m planning to get loads more!
The cream blusher seems great as well! I’ve had my eye on that product for ages!x
